Swindon Greens have said they are pleased with their performance in this year’s local elections and have established themselves as Swindon’s third party after finishing third in over half of all the Borough’s wards.

Andy Bentley, Chair of Swindon Area Green Party, said:

“The gains made by the Green Party nationally have been amazing, with thousands of people across the country now represented by a Green Party councillor for the first time. And we know that when people see Greens in action, they want more.

“I’m particularly pleased to see how well our Young Greens have performed here in Swindon. Pippa Fairbourn in Wroughton & Wichelstowe and Bradley Williams in St Andrews have both done us proud on their first time standing.

“Although the two old parties dominated as usual, the Greens have established themselves as the third party across Swindon. We need to use that as a platform for further gains.

“My hope is that some of our national success will rub off and inspire more people, particularly more young people, to get involved with the Green Party in Swindon and help to get those Green voices onto the council here. Having Greens in the room makes change happen, and Swindon needs change.”

Bradley Williams, who stood as the Greens’ candidate in St Andrews, finishing third, said:

“Today the Greens have seen great results across the country, and here in Swindon we are now in a strong position to get our first councillor elected. We have seen the need for a green voice in Swindon, and today’s votes reflect this. We’re delighted that so many people have voted for us and we will continue to be a voice for Swindon’s residents both in and out of office.”
